How to check your home for mold

You don’t need a kit to do a solid first pass yourself. This is a look-smell-measure routine that finds the great majority of household mold problems — and tells you whether the next step is a cleaning rag or a phone call.

  1. Start with your nose. Mold usually announces itself before you see it.
